Earlier this week, Apple officials announced that they officially hired Timothy Twerdahl. This latter will be the new Apple TV Vice President of Product Marketing.
This latest Apple announcement came on February 08. But the decision seems to have been taken sooner. An Apple spokesperson released a statement. And according to it, Twerdahl joined the apple brand sometime this month.
As reported by the media, Timothy Twerdahl will be working directly with Greg Joswiak. He is the iPhone Vice President of Marketing.
Timothy D. Twerdahl has quite a rich experience in the streaming devices domain. He occupied various executive positions in a number of companies in the area.
Before 2013, he occupied an executive role at Netflix. Twerdahl was also part of Roku. He occupied the Vice President of Consumer Devices position. Roku is a home digital media products manufacturer company.
Timothy Twerdahl also worked with Time Warner, the media entertainment corporation. And also with Motorola. The multinational telecommunications company manufactures and sells various wireless devices, amongst others.
In between 2009 and 2012, he was also the WIMM Labs Products VP. WIMM Labs is a startup targeting the smartwatch area.
Back in 2013, Twerdahl joined Amazon. He was the director and general manager of the Fire TV operations. Twerdahl left the position in December 2016.
As part of Apple, he is expected to lead the product development segment of the Apple TV. Presently, this is being administered by Pete Distad. As Timothy Twerdahl will join the company, the former is expected to shift focus. He will probably be concentrating his efforts in the content deal area.
Media rumors have long since vehiculated the following. The next Apple set-top box could be launched with an over-the-top content bundle. Still, this will depend on various factors. And these include negotiations with content owners.
Timothy Twerdahl Expected to Bring Apple TV ABck on Track
Timothy Twerdahl will have some work to do. According to reports, the Apple TV is not doing so well. Reports released last week revealed that its sale number are falling.
These reports targeted the latest set-top box. This was released back in 2015. Its 2016 holiday quarter sales were not as expected. They marked a year-over-year decrease. Which means that they brought in less than in 2015 holiday quarter.
Apple TV sales were not a high contributor to the total Apple sales for 2016. The products accounted for just about 5 percent of the sales value.
Timothy Twerdahl will reportedly focus on adding more content to these products. The company is hoping that this will increase the customer interest. And as such, increased the client numbers.
The aforementioned Distad will be working with Eddie Cue in achieving this goal. They will be trying to negotiate content deal offers. These will include talks with film studios and TV networks.
According to reports, Apple is also looking to launch its own streaming service. Reportedly, it is a years old plan. One that has reportedly been troubled by the lack of network and studio deals.
Presently, the company owns and offer a music streaming service. Known as the Apple Music, it has a $9.99 price per month.
